Brands:

The Classic of Islay by Jack Wiebers embodies all the power and allure of the island of Islay. This peated single malt is bottled without chill-filtration or added colouring, carefully selected by the renowned German independent bottler Jack Wiebers, active since 1977 and famous for the quality and precision of his cask choices.

Behind the Classic of Islay label hides an authentic peated single malt from Islay. The distillery is not disclosed, but for this edition we know it is a Lagavulin fully matured in ex-sherry casks, bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and at natural colour to preserve its full integrity and richness.

A Lagavulin matured in sherry is certainly not an everyday experience. The result is a whisky of striking aromatic depth: intense and maritime, led by powerful peat smoke intertwined with the enveloping sweetness of sherry, enhanced by dried fruit and warming spices. A dram that surprises with balance and complexity, captivating both Islay enthusiasts and those looking for a different, refined expression of Lagavulin.

Colour: Bright mahogany.

Nose: Opens with maritime and saline notes: seaweed, brine, coastal air, alongside dark oak and ash. Beneath the smoke lie fruity, sweet accents of dried apricots, peaches, red fruits and raisins.

Palate: Begins with toasted oak and charred wood. The peat smoke merges with intense maritime flavours – iodine, seaweed, salt – followed by sweet and fruity notes of caramel, toffee, light honey, peach, plum and dried apricot.

Finish: Long, persistent and dry, with lingering peat smoke, salt and toasted wood. Tangy, herbal and ashy notes emerge, balanced by residual sweetness of stewed fruits – pears, baked apples – and the unmistakable smoky peat of Islay that lingers on.
