Founded in 1753, Hampden Estate is one of Jamaica’s oldest and most prestigious distilleries. In 2009, the Hussey family, through Everglades Farms Limited, acquired Hampden Estate with the goal of preserving and enhancing traditional production methods. Since then, the company has undergone significant expansion, investing in new facilities and increasing aging capacity.
The Hampden Great House 2023 is an expression from the historic Jamaican distillery, created from a blend of carefully selected rums: 60% comes from the LROK mark (Light Rum Owen Kelly), aged for around 2 years, while the remaining 40% consists of HLCF (Hampden Light Continental Flavoured) rum matured for 7 years. Both components are entirely tropical aged in ex-bourbon casks. The final blend is bottled at 57% ABV.

Color: Bright amber.
Aroma: On the nose, sharp notes of green banana, ripe pineapple, and citrus peel. Pungent aromas of solvent, fresh paint, and green olive brine emerge — classic hallmarks of high-ester Jamaican rum. With time in the glass, the aroma softens, revealing sweeter hints of raw sugar syrup, freshly baked banana bread, and green herbal touches.
Palate: The entry is bold and almost piercing, with a powerful wave of diesel fumes, glue, and hot asphalt. This quickly gives way to tropical fruit, especially banana, and an intense hit of black pepper. As it develops, more rounded notes of cane sugar, candied citrus, and a slight fermented accent appear. The body is full, oily, and persistent.
Finish: Medium length, with returns of tropical fruit, solvent, caramelized spices, and wood. It ends with lightly smoky, resinous, and spicy notes, with a lingering echo of pepper on the palate.
