Caol Ila Distillery is located on the north-eastern coast of the island of Islay, overlooking the strait that separates the island from the nearby Isle of Jura. The name “Caol Ila” itself comes from Gaelic and means “Sound of Islay”, a direct reference to the distillery’s scenic location.
The distillery was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, but during its history it changed ownership several times before becoming part of the Diageo group, one of the largest whisky producers in the world.
In 1972 Caol Ila was completely rebuilt and modernized: the original plant was demolished and replaced with a larger and more efficient distillery, while maintaining the same historic location. This expansion made Caol Ila, and it still is today, the largest distillery on Islay in terms of production capacity.
The Adelphi Islay Caol Ila 10 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky aged for at least 10 years in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry oak casks before being bottled at a classic 46% vol., without added colouring and without chill filtration.

Colour: Burnished gold.
Aroma: On the nose we find elegant and mineral peat smoke, with notes of lemon, green apple and a light maritime sensation. Hints of sweet malt, vanilla and a subtle herbal note follow.
Taste: On the palate the peat almost transforms, becoming drier and more saline, accompanied by citrus, light honey and a delicate spiciness of pepper and oak.
Finish: Of good length, maritime, with notes of coastal smoke, lemon peel and a light salinity reminiscent of brine.
