The name Ballechin was taken from a distillery, closed in 1927, near Edradour. Alfred Barnard in his 1880 book about distilleries mentions having tasted a peated whisky at Ballechin. The Ballechin 10 Years Old is a heavily peated single malt, at least 50ppm, aged for at least 10 years in a mix of American ex-bourbon barrels and European ex-Oloroso sherry casks, and finally bottled at 46% without being filtered.
