Brands:

The Classic of Islay is one of the most renowned labels from the independent bottler Jack Wiebers, active since 1977 and celebrated for releasing whiskies of strong character – often sourced from iconic single distilleries, though without explicitly revealing their names. A philosophy that has built a loyal community of enthusiasts always seeking unique and unconventional experiences.

This special edition of Classic of Islay is a peated single malt Scotch distilled at Lagavulin, matured in a single ex-sherry cask (#300716) before being bottled in June 2025 at its natural strength of 57.9% ABV, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring.

Colour: Bright mahogany.

Nose: The initial impact is quintessentially Islay: a maritime breath of seaweed, iodine and salty coastal air, immediately wrapped in an intense, almost “dirty” peat smoke reminiscent of charred wood and ash. Alongside the smoky backbone appear sweeter, more enveloping notes of raisins and dark berries, enriched by spicy touches and subtle hints of tobacco and leather.

Palate: Bold and vigorous on the entry, with peat merging into maritime impressions of salt, seaweed and ash. The sherry sweetness brings balance and depth, unfolding flavours of caramel, honey and ripe fruit, while lively pepper and spiced oak add further complexity.

Finish: Long and persistent, leaving a smoky and earthy memory on the palate, with echoes of salt, toasted wood and bitter herbs. Residual sweetness of stewed fruits and citrus accompanies the close, perfectly balancing the peated soul and Islay character.
