Kilchoman is a craft distillery founded in 2005 by Anthony and Kathy Wills, located in the parish of Kilchoman — one of the most fertile areas on the island of Islay, Scotland. It is the only farm distillery on the island and notably, the first new distillery to be built on Islay in 124 years, following the opening of Bunnahabhain in 1883.
In 2025, Kilchoman celebrates its 20th anniversary. The first cask was filled in December 2005, while the first single malt, the “Inaugural Release,” was launched in 2009.
The Kilchoman 13 Years Old is a heavily peated single malt Scotch whisky, aged for at least 13 years in a mix of ex‑bourbon barrels (70%), ex‑bourbon octaves (100 liters, 20%), and ex‑Calvados casks (10%). It was bottled at 50% ABV, non‑chill filtered and with its natural color.

Color: Bright straw yellow with brass highlights.
Aroma: Fresh and complex, with notes of tropical fruit like pineapple and banana, alongside citrus nuances. Sweet aromas of toffee emerge, blending with a maritime and briny peat, featuring hints of nori seaweed, brine, and grilled fish.
Taste: The palate opens with lively, slightly spicy citrus notes, followed by grape juice and blueberry. Spices like black pepper, ginger, and clove appear next. The peat becomes more intense, smoky and earthy, with touches of aromatic herbs (marjoram, thyme). It finishes on custard cream, puff pastry, and candied apricot.
Finish: Long and persistent, salty and smoky, with citrus returns, black pepper, licorice, sea salt, sweet tobacco, and ash. In the background, ripe white fruit, vanilla, crème brûlée, dried fruit, and a hint of aromatic herbs linger.
