Kilkerran Heavily Peated is a single malt Scotch whisky produced by the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland. Kilkerran is the brand under which whiskies from Glengyle are released, a historic distillery that reopened in 2004 after decades of inactivity.
The Kilkerran Heavily Peated is characterized by a high level of peat, quite different from other releases from the distillery, which tend to be much less smoky. Nose: The introduction is quite sweet and clean, likely due to the predominance of bourbon casks, with a generous dose of peat, crème brûlée, powdered sugar, coconut, banana, and a slight hint of honey and sea breeze.
Taste: Full-bodied, the peat smoke greets you on the palate as well, alongside honey, mango, banana, lemon zest, and caramel, with hints of charred grass and spiced oak.
Finish: Good length, sweet but more spicy, notes of black pepper, ginger, then ash, honey, orange, and peat smoke with charred notes.
