The Macallan Distillery was founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid — a farmer and teacher — in the Speyside region of Scotland. Located on the grounds of Easter Elchies House, along the River Spey, the distillery boasts two centuries of heritage. The year 2024 marked the 200th anniversary of its founding.
The A Night on Earth series by Macallan is designed to celebrate special, festive moments shared with loved ones during New Year’s Eve. For this release, inspiration was drawn from Jerez, Spain — the home of sherry and a city historically tied to The Macallan, as many of the distillery’s sherry-seasoned casks originate there. This unique combination of sweetness and richness captures the essence of New Year’s in Spain, where it is traditional to eat twelve grapes before midnight, and particularly in Jerez, famous for its pestiños — fried pastries glazed with sugar and anise or honey.
The Macallan A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera is a single malt Scotch whisky matured exclusively in a combination of European and American oak sherry casks seasoned in 2015, before being bottled at 43% ABV at natural color.
The bottle’s packaging was created in collaboration with Jerez-born artist María Melero and evokes the New Year’s Eve traditions of Jerez (Nochevieja), its vineyards, colorful tiles (azulejos), and golden grapes.
