The Miyagikyo distillery was founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, nestled in the mountains of Miyagi Prefecture near Sendai. Designed to elegantly balance the robust character of its twin Yoichi, it produces a non-peated single malt with a soft, fruity and floral style, thanks to high-necked stills that promote high reflux and a particularly delicate spirit.
The Miyagikyo 10 Years Old had been withdrawn from the market in 2015 due to stock shortages amid the great demand for Japanese whisky, becoming a cult item over the years. Reintroduced in 2025, it returns with a renewed look, from the traditional washi paper label to the forest green colour that evokes the natural environment of the distillery. This whisky has been aged for at least 10 years in a selection of oak casks before being bottled at the classic Japanese house strength of 45% vol.
