Famous in Japan for its Sakurao Gin, the distillery announced its new whisky distillery project in 2015 to properly celebrate 100 years of activity. The Sakurao distillery began production in 2018 and is located in the city of Hatsukaichi, in Hiroshima Prefecture, known for the Itsukushima Shrine, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Sakurao Single Malt is a lightly peated whisky, aged for a minimum of three years and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, and virgin oak casks before being finished for several months in Mizunara oak barrels. This single malt is bottled at a classic 43% ABV, non-chill filtered, and at its natural color.
