1897 was an important year for Great Britain – not only for the founding of the Speyburn distillery (perhaps mostly for the Scots), but also because it marked the Diamond Jubilee celebrating Queen Victoria’s 60 years on the throne. Legend has it that John Hopkins, founder of Speyburn, set out to create a high-quality whisky to commemorate the occasion. Despite countless difficulties and extremely harsh weather conditions (even by Scottish standards), Hopkins succeeded, and on the night of December 31st, 1897, the very first new make spirit flowed from Speyburn’s stills.
The Speyburn 10 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky matured for at least 10 years in oak casks and bottled at a classic 40% ABV. First released by the distillery in 2008, it has since received a number of awards and accolades.
