The courtyard is spacious, the buildings are impressive, and the stills are majestic: everything at Bunnahabhain is on a grand scale, unlike its spirit, which is the most refined of Islay. The distillery, founded in 1881 by William Robertson, is located in a spectacular position in the northeast of the island. Robertson chose this site as the most suitable for a distillery, despite its lack of infrastructure. To realize the project, he invested a considerable sum of £30,000, allocating it for the construction of the distillery, access road, employee housing, and a pier.
The Bunnahabhain 12 Years Old Cask Strength is a single malt Scotch whisky aged for 12 years created using a combination of first, second and re-fill Oloroso casks. This whisky was finally bottled in 2025 at its natural strength of 56.4%! without chill filtration and in its natural color.
