This particular Japanese blend is created by combining the Single Malt distilled at Kanosuke Distillery (100% malted barley, lightly peated) with the Kanosuke Hioki Pot Still (distilled at Hioki Distillery with a mash bill of 90% unmalted barley + 10% malted barley, unpeated). The Hioki Distillery is part of the Komasa Jyozo group and has been active since 1883 producing shochu; it received the license to distill grain whisky in 2020. It is the first official blend that unites the two family distilleries, created to honour grandfather Kanosuke Komasa, inventor of the famous Mellowed Kozuru (the first cask-aged shochu in Japanese history).
The Kanosuke Double Distillery is a blended whisky obtained by mixing a single malt whisky distilled from lightly peated barley in the Miyake copper pot stills of Kanosuke + a pot still whisky distilled in the stainless steel stills of Hioki. It is aged in a combination of new American white oak casks, re-charred ex-shochu “Mellowed Kozuru” casks, sherry casks and ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled at 53% ABV without chill-filtration and at its natural colour.
