The Isle of Harris Distillery is located in the picturesque village of Tarbert, in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides. Founded in 2015, it is one of the youngest distilleries in the region but has already gained significant attention for the quality of its products and its strong connection to the local community.
The Hearach Single Malt First Fill Oloroso was distilled using Concerto and Laureate barley varieties, with a medium peat level of 13.3 ppm. Maturation took place exclusively in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks sourced from Bodega José y Miguel Martín in Jerez, before being bottled at a classic 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added colouring.

Color: Amber with orange highlights.
Aroma: Soft on entry, with a caramel sweetness that quickly gives way to a veil of aromatic herbs (thyme, rosemary) and a gentle but present peat. There are also notes of nuts, dried orange peel, and black pepper. Towards the end, hints of menthol (eucalyptus, mint) and a subtle touch of leather emerge.
Palate: A warm, spicy profile: cinnamon, cloves, and orange zest come first, followed by fresher notes of mint, accompanied by a delicate, slightly balsamic peat. White chocolate, toasted nuts, and sherry notes round out the experience.
Finish: Medium length, with notes of licorice, white chocolate, leather, and a blend of spices — including cloves and vanilla — that merge with a soft hint of warm ash.
