Isle of Jura Distillery is located on the island of Jura, in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, a remote and sparsely populated territory situated opposite the much more famous island of Islay. The distillery was founded in 1810 in the small village of Craighouse, but during the nineteenth century it ceased operations and remained inactive for many years.
The distillery was revived in 1963, when two local landowners, Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith, decided to completely rebuild it to relaunch the island’s economy and counter its depopulation. The project was entrusted to architect William Delmé-Evans, known for designing several modern Scottish distilleries.
The Jura 14 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky aged for about 14 years in ex-bourbon American oak casks before being finished for several months in American oak casks that previously held rye whiskey. This whisky has finally been bottled at the classic 40% vol.
