Old Perth is a name with deep roots in the Scottish blending tradition. Born in 1908 in Perth by Peter Thomson, the brand developed a range of blends that became popular in Scottish pubs over the years. After a long period of absence, the brand was revived by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers. Although today it is often associated with modern blended malts, Old Perth maintains an authentic connection to the history of Perth blending and, more broadly, to the quality Scottish blending tradition.
The Old Perth Solera is a blended malt Scotch whisky obtained exclusively from single malts sourced from Speyside and aged in just five ex-sherry casks from Jerez, which were used for approximately seventy years in the solera system. These are not ordinary sherry casks, but barrels with a very long history, which for decades held sherry and developed an extraordinary aromatic depth. This release was born almost out of necessity: after several years of maturation in the Scottish warehouses, some of the casks – now very old – began to lose the whisky they contained. Instead of re-racking, Morrison chose to bottle the contents, giving life to this special and probably unique edition. The result is a blended malt at 57.6% vol., non-chill filtered and with natural colour, which maximises sherry influence: a true “sherry monster”.

Color: Deep amber with red reflections.
Aroma: Intense and decidedly sherry-driven. It opens with red berries, raisins, red fruit jam and brown sugar, enriched by spicy notes of cinnamon. In the background emerges a beautiful mature depth with hints of leather, old oak and ancient book pages.
Taste: Full, oily and warm. It offers a rich explosion of dark fruit under spirit, dates, sultana raisins, dark chocolate and spicy wood, with a component of walnut and toasted dried fruit. The 57.6% vol. is well integrated into a very rich and velvety body.
Finish: Long, warm and persistent. The notes of dark fruit, sweet spices and wood return, with a very marked and enveloping sherried tail.
