Kilchoman is an independent farm distillery on the island of Islay, founded in 2005 by Anthony Wills and his family. It was the first new distillery built on Islay in over 124 years. The distillery promotes the “100% Islay” philosophy, meaning that all the barley used comes from crops grown on the island (some cultivated directly in the distillery’s own fields, the rest purchased from other local farmers) and that the entire production process takes place on site. The name Loch Gruinart comes from the large sea loch located in the northern part of Islay, near the distillery. The name has Old Norse origins and means “shallow fjord”. It is an area of great natural beauty, famous as a reserve for migratory birds.
The Kilchoman Loch Gruinart is a heavily peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (50 PPM), composed of single malts aged between 4 and 6 years, predominantly matured in bourbon casks (approximately 90%) with a small percentage of European sherry casks (approximately 10%). Bottled at 46% vol., non-chill filtered and at its natural colour.
