Elixir Distillers is the bottler behind the Port Askaig range, a series of Islay single malts named after the island’s main port. The source distilleries are not disclosed: the aim of the range is to represent the style of Islay as a whole, with particular attention to peat and the maritime influences of the Inner Hebrides island.
The Port Askaig Cask Strength is a peated single malt Scotch whisky matured in a selection of casks comprising 34% ex-sherry PX butts, 28% ex-sherry Oloroso butts and hogsheads, 34% refill butts and hogsheads, and 2% ex-bourbon barrels. This whisky was bottled at its natural strength of 59.1% vol., with no added colouring and without chill filtration. The bottling aims to preserve the most direct impact of the spirit, exactly as it comes from the cask.

Aroma: We are greeted by notes of medicinal peat, roasted and smoked coffee beans, black pepper, aromatic dried flowers, light smoke with a spicy hint of chilli.
Taste: On the palate it is oily; we find forest fruit jam, citrus notes, with a chilli warmth that lingers on the tongue and marine peat smoke.
Finish: Long-lasting, with notes of peat smoke, liquorice, dark chocolate pralines with sour cherry, burnt wood, black pepper and chilli.
