A very interesting single malt for its age, and of course peated. Finn Thomson surprises us once again with this single cask distilled in Glasgow.

In 1770 the first Glasgow Distillery was founded at Dundashill, one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. It closed in 1902, and with it the single malt tradition in the city came to an end: for over a century Glasgow, which once counted around thirty distilleries, had none. The revival arrived in 2012, when Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward founded a new Glasgow Distillery Company, reclaiming the historic name. The site was set up in Hillington, on the south-western outskirts of the city, and on 5 March 2015 Cask No. 1 was filled. The first single malt was released in 2018 under the name Glasgow 1770, in homage to the original distillery. In 2020 it received the Distillery of the Year award at the Scottish Whisky Awards.
Finn Thomson is the ninth generation of a Perthshire family that has revolved around whisky for three centuries: his ancestor James Thomson, born in 1713, worked the fields by day and distilled in secret as evening fell. Before starting to bottle under his own name, Finn learned the trade on the ground, spending time with Miguel Torres in Spain and Casa Pedro Domecq in Mexico, as well as with some of the best-known British whisky merchants.
Two years ago Finn bottled his youngest single cask ever, a 5-year-old peated Glasgow, cask #478, which became one of his most sought-after bottlings at festivals around the world. Cask #477 is the twin cask, left in the warehouse for another two years. The result, according to those who selected it, is more balanced: the virgin oak has had time to integrate with the peat rather than running alongside it.
The Glasgow 2018 7 Years Old Finn Thomson is a peated single malt Scotch whisky, distilled on 2 May 2018 and matured entirely in a single virgin oak cask (#477), before being bottled on 16 May 2025 at its natural strength of 55.5% vol., without chill filtration and without the addition of colouring, in 263 bottles.

Color: Intense gold with coppery reflections.
Nose: On the nose the smoke is full but aromatic, accompanied by the sweetness of caramel and a note of ripe banana. The virgin oak brings vanilla and a hint of coconut.
Palate: On the palate the peat and the sweetness move together; we have caramel and banana holding their own against the smoke, with the vanilla of the new wood acting as the glue and the full strength adding spiciness.
Finish: Long and warm, with the smoke lingering for a long time on a sweet base of vanilla and toasted wood.
