Founded in 1753 in the Trelawny region of Jamaica, Hampden Estate is one of the oldest rum distilleries still in operation. Production still follows practices that are almost unchanged from the past: very long fermentations with wild yeasts, use of dunder pits and distillation exclusively in pot stills—elements that generate the famous Jamaican “high-ester” profile.
The Hampden Estate 1753 is a pure single Jamaican rum designed as the gateway to the authentic style of the historic Trelawny distillery. The name pays tribute to the year the estate was founded, active since the 18th century, and represents one of the most accessible expressions in the official Hampden range.
Produced exclusively from molasses and distilled in traditional pot stills, this rum faithfully follows the distillery’s historic methods: long fermentations with natural yeasts, batch distillation and tropical maturation in Jamaica. It is bottled at 46% vol. without the addition of sugars or colouring.

Colour: Gold.
Aroma: Typical and immediate in the Hampden style, opening with fermenting pineapple, very ripe banana and green apple. These are followed by honey, banana blossom and citrus, together with more complex nuances of brined olives, capers and light acetone notes. With time, almond, marzipan and a delicate petrolic hint emerge. The wood remains in the background, leaving room for the fermentative and fruity character.
Taste: Medium-bodied, with a lively and slightly savoury entry. The texture is dominated by ripe tropical fruit—green banana, pineapple and stone fruit, accompanied by honey and sweet spices. The briny and slightly acetone-driven component typical of the distillery integrates well with an oily and compact texture. Green tea, citrus peel, cocoa and light herbal and vegetal notes also emerge.
Finish: Long and persistent, with returning notes of tropical fruit, honey and banana, alongside a growing salinity recalling olives and brine. It closes with lightly toasted and earthy nuances.
