Founded in Edinburgh in 1885, North British is one of Scotland’s historic grain distilleries. It was established primarily to counter the monopoly of John Haig’s Cameronbridge, which at the time was the only grain distillery in operation. Interestingly, today these two former rivals appear side by side within the same 100 Proof series released by the independent bottler Signatory.
The Signatory 100 Proof series features whiskies bottled at 57.1% vol., the historic British strength, without chill filtration and with maturations designed to deliver bold and authentic profiles.
The North British 15 Years Old 100 Proof is a single grain Scotch whisky distilled in 2009 and matured for at least 15 years in a combination of first-fill and refill ex-sherry Oloroso butts and ex-bourbon barrels, before being bottled on 27 February 2025 at 57.1% vol. (100 proof), without added colour and without chill filtration.
