Founded in 1893 in the eastern Highlands, in Aberdeenshire, Knockdhu was established at the foot of the hill of the same name (from which it takes its Gaelic meaning: “black hill”). The location was no coincidence: pure water, quality barley and an ideal agricultural setting. After a promising start, like many Scottish distilleries it went through long periods of closure, until its revival in the 1960s and eventual stability under the ownership of Inver House Distillers.
To avoid confusion with the Knockando distillery, the whisky released by the distillery is bottled under the name anCnoc, while the name Knockdhu is reserved for independent bottler releases.
The Cask Strength Collection by Signatory features whiskies matured in single casks and bottled at their natural strength, without chill filtration and without added colour.
The Knockdhu 16 Years Old Cask Strength is a single malt Scotch whisky distilled on 9 June 2008 and matured for 16 years exclusively in a single second-fill ex-sherry Oloroso butt, before being bottled on 22 May 2025 at its natural strength of 56.9% vol., without added colour and without chill filtration, in a total of 677 bottles.

Aroma: On the nose it is very intriguing, far from classic profiles, with notes of toasted dried fruit, baked apples, cinnamon, freshly baked bread and a floral hint, alongside a sweeter and balsamic side.
Taste: On the palate it has good body, with notes of orange marmalade, chocolate and cherries, raisins, baked apples with crushed toasted hazelnuts.
Finale: Of good persistence, slightly dry and spicy, with notes of cinnamon, dark chocolate, wildflower honey and barley malt, with a light floral hint.
